TEACHERS will soon be on the run from a Teesside school.
A team of 30 teachers and support staff at Middlesbrough's Acklam Whin Primary School will be taking part in the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10km run on Sunday, to raise money for cancer research.
They are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds to support Cancer Research UK's programme of research into the causes of cancer and better treatments for the future.
Headteacher John Lees said: "We are looking forward to the run and to raising money for such a good cause.
"Cancer affects everyone. Our school community has been touched by cancer a number of times, among family and friends of the school and among the staff. So it is particularly fitting that we are supporting Cancer Research UK."
School governor and former teacher Barrie Emmerson, 74, encouraged staff to sign up and join him on the run.
Lindsay Kay, Cancer Research UK community fundraiser, said: "We are very grateful to Acklam Whin Primary School staff for the time and effort they are committing to help raise money."
The Cancer Research UK supports the work of scientists, doctors and nurses investigating how best to prevent and treat cancer.
In Middlesbrough, Cancer Research UK is supporting research at the James Cook University Hospital, known as the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening trial (UKCTOCS).
There is no national screening programme for ovarian cancer, and only women with a strong family history are regularly monitored for early signs of the disease.
The UKCTOCS will help to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of a national ovarian screening programme.
