A FISH and chip shop is hoping to batter its rivals in a regional competition.
Beedles Chippy, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has gone through to the regional finals of the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition. It now goes head-to-head with Rothwells, in Doncaster, to become the North-East England champion, and earn a place in the national final.
Owner Peter Beedle paid tribute to Angie Patterson, who died earlier this month, for her hard work at the chip shop.
Coxhoe Fish Bar, in Durham, The Right Plaice, in Darlington, Fryers Plaice, in Hexham, The Golden Chippy, in South Shields, Mister Cod, in Sunderland, Frosts, in Kenton, Beedles Chippy, in Shildon, and Springs, in Houghton-le-Spring, were all runners-up.
