BOTANIST Dr David Bellamy will re-launch a community bus service for people with transport and mobility problems in the Durham Dales area this week.
The TV conservationist will visit the Durham Dales Centre on Thursday to celebrate the return of Weardale Community Transport's Healthy Living Partnership minibus.
The 14-seat vehicle, which has space for two wheelchair users, will be available to all community groups living in the Teesdale and Wear Valley with access and mobility problems because of rural location or disability.
The bus has been restored thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund, supported by Durham County Council and the Durham Dales Primary Care Trust.
Steve Lockwood, Durham County Council's rural transport team leader, said: "The new minibus will be available to all Durham Dales Healthy Living Partners on either a self-drive basis or with a driver."
Weardale Community Transport operates the minibus on behalf of the Durham Dales Healthy Living Partnership, which aims to promote healthy lifestyles.
The minibus, or any of the services operated by Weardale Community Transport, can be booked by contacting either Bob or Dawn on (01388) 528777.
