A TAXI driver of 25 years has warned that radical changes in the centre of Darlington could bring further chaos.
Joseph Price said the alterations to the traffic system, part of Darlington Borough Council's £6.5m pedestrianisation project, had left the majority of taxi drivers without a rank to operate from.
He also insisted that a pedestrian crossing needed to be installed at the top of Priestgate, a narrow street which, due to the town centre changes, has become a regular bus route.
Mr Price said: "We have got nowhere to go to park in the town.
"The taxi drivers should get together and sort something out because the council is walking all over us.
"How are elderly people going to get across the road in Priestgate when the buses are travelling at such speeds? It's dangerous."
A council spokeswoman said the impact of the changes was being reviewed on a daily basis.
On the question of a crossing in Priestgate, she said: "There are no plans for one at the moment, but the situation is under review."
