A WOMAN who hopes to get ahead with her hats and hairpieces held a showcase of her work at the weekend.
Donna Thurkettle held an exhibition of more than 50 colourful creations at Beaconsfield Court nursing home in Galgate, Barnard Castle.
Ms Thurkettle, of Cotherstone, works as a cook assistant at the home, but hopes to set up her own business with the flamboyant designs.
"It was an exhibition of hats and fascinators," said Ms Thurkettle, who studied embroidery at the University of Cumbria. "I was quite busy, and got a few sales and a few commissions."
The exhibition was attended by members of the public, family and friends, as well as residents from the home.
Highlights included a butterfly piece, and the headgear is suitable for weddings, funerals, theatre-going and special occasions.
For more information or to buy any designs, contact Ms Thurkettle on 07876 585091.
