SIXTEEN cubs can now ride their bikes safely after passing their cycling proficiency tests.
The youngsters from the 1st Brompton Cubs took part in six weeks of lessons at their cub meetings under the guidance of North Yorkshire County Council road safety officer, Kevin Pratt, and a band of willing parents.
All 16 have now passed with flying colours, to the delight of cub leaders Maria Shiel-Dods and John Metcalfe. Maria said: "They all worked very hard to complete the test and are very proud of their certificates.
"Road safety is a very important issue. All the children have bikes and many simply get on and ride them without thinking about learning the rules of the road first."
The group meets every Monday from 6.30pm to 8pm at Brompton Primary School, in Brompton, near Northallerton.
