AN 89-year-old woman who is partially paralysed has completed a sponsored walk after being inspired by her local vicar.
Heather Dill walked just over a mile from her home in Upsall, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, to St Wilfred's Church, in nearby Kirby Knowle, to raise money for the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust.
Mrs Dill set out with her walking frame and pet dog, Bingo, after hearing a service in which the Reverend Toddy Hoare urged people to take part in an annual sponsored bike ride for the trust.
"He said we should use whatever mode of transport we can to help raise money," said Mrs Dill.
"I can't walk without sticks, but I love the thought of a challenge.
"I decided I would set off and just see how far I could get.
"I asked people to sponsor me one pound a mile and have raised about £50 so far."
Mrs Dill is an active member of the church and has lived in Upsall for 40 years.
It took her 39 minutes to complete the walk.
