A SECTION of Grey Street in Newcastle is closed today for street theatre sessions.
The eighth annual In Town Without My Car Day takes place between 11am and 3pm.
Street theatre, live music, a bike clinic and information stands promoting fitness, health, public transport and cycling will all add to the atmosphere of the traffic-free event.
One of the highlights is an acrobatic act from London, which gives a new meaning to the term roadworks.
The Hole Job will be making their North-East debut with their high-flying acrobatic slapstick farce. Their 40-minute show involves acrobatics and cone juggling.
The fun continues with Splats Entertainment, who will be holding interactive circus workshops teaching passers-by the art of stilt-walking and plate-spinning.
Newcastle City councillor Greg Stone, executive member for planning, regeneration and transport, said: "In Town Without My Car Day is a free, fun day with a serious message, which aims to encourage as many people as possible to leave their cars at home for just one day and try different ways of travelling."
