STAFF at Sedgefield Primary Care Trust are leading by example after winning a regional fitness challenge.
More than 40 staff from the trust took part in the Million Mile challenge health and fitness campaign by Sport England to encourage people in the region to include physical activity in their everyday lives.
The team was challenged to complete as many miles as possible in ten weeks by running, walking or swimming to help reach a regional target of one million miles.
Secretary Jodie McKeown organised lunch time walks, aerobic sessions, games of rounders, running clubs, which also acted as training for staff who took part in the Great North Run.
Together they covered 2,252 miles, which secured them an award for the greatest distance completed by a medium-sized company.
Chief executive Nigel Porter said: "This initiative proves that it is not difficult to find the time to keep fit and that we can all make exercise a part of our everyday life."
