A school gave its pupils a taste of life in Europe yesterday.
St John's RC Comprehensive School, in Bishop Auckland, held a European Day based on four countries to encourage youngsters to learn about various cultures.
Spain, France, Germany and Italy were the featured countries, and various events relating to each country took place during the day.
Learning resource centre manager Linzi Heads said: "We celebrate this day each year in the school.
"The teachers learned greetings to welcome their pupils into lessons. At lunchtime, the hall was lined with flags and bunting from different countries.
"It gives the youngsters a taste of other countries. They enjoyed most of the food."
Delicacies included tortilla, olives, French bread, gherkins, salami and biscotti.
