STUDENTS at a Darlington college have been commended for their outstanding academic performances during the past year.
Awards were given at the annual Heckscher-Wolf ceremony at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College for excellence in chemistry, physics and maths.
Jessica Weightman and Matthew Fisher were commended for chemistry, Darren Ward and Jay Gosiewski won prizes for maths and the physics awards went to Daniel Hill and Chris Snider.
Jessica, Daniel and Darren sat their A-levels this year and achieved top grades. Jessica is studying medicine at Newcastle University, Darren is at Loughborough reading automotive engineering, and Daniel is at Sheffield University studying physics and philosophy.
Matthew, Jay and Chris are in their second year of study at the sixth form, and achieved excellent results in their recent AS-level exams.
Linda Aldridge, director of studies in science at the college, said: "These prize-winners are shining examples of students achieving their full potential. They have all been committed and enthusiastic in their studies, always eager to know more and understand.
"They really deserve their successful exam results and the prizes they have been awarded."
