A WELL-WORN pilgrims' path is to be trodden by children from schools in Yorkshire and Middlesbrough.
The Ripon and Leeds Church of England Diocese is organising an inter-faith pilgrimage, from Ripon Cathedral to Fountains Abbey, next month.
About 70 schoolchildren - both Christian and Muslim - will take part, on October 3.
A diocese spokesman said the children would share in collective worship and discussion groups in the morning.
In the afternoon, they will make the three-mile pilgrimage from the cathedral to the abbey, at its World Heritage Site.
The route taken will be that of the annual pilgrimage, led on Boxing Day, by the Bishop of Ripon, the Right Reverend John Packer, via the village of Studley Roger and the Deer Park at Studley Royal and into the abbey grounds.
Project co-ordinator Eileen Bellett, from Ripon, says the event is an opportunity for children of different faiths to meet.
She said: "This is the first of what we hope will be a series of events over the coming year. We are planning a visit to Middlesbrough, where the children will visit a mosque and a Hindu temple."
