TODAY marks 2,500 days to go before the start of the 2012 London Olympics.
And a sports college recognised the landmark yesterday by focusing its attention on the world's biggest sporting spectacle.
Pupils at Longfield School, in Darlington, were shown a video designed to raise aspirations among athletes of the future.
The school, the only specialist sports college in the town, was sent the video by the organisers of the London Olympics.
Assistant headteacher John Layfield-Carroll has also designed a quiz for the school's 950 pupils to complete - for the chance to win money and sports equipment.
Pupils have been asked to list every Olympic host city since 1948 and every sport tested in the world's largest sporting spectacle.
He said: "The quiz is a lot of fun for the kids. We want them to realise that the Olympics will have an impact on this region as well as London."
The school is hoping to stage more events themed around the 2012 Olympics.
