A TEENAGER has been handed a two-year anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) and banned from a shopping area for abusing staff at a Teesside supermarket.
The 16-year-old, from Ingleby Barwick, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given the order at Teesside Magistrates' Court for his aggressive and abusive behaviour towards workers at the Tesco store.
The court heard he also used abusive language to teachers and members of the public, drank alcohol, trespassed and assaulted people.
Under the order, he must not enter the shopping area around the Tesco supermarket in Ingleby Barwick and must not cause or incite harassment, alarm or distress to anyone.
And the court said he must not threaten, verbally abuse or intimidate members of the public.
Gary Collins, senior anti-social behaviour officer for Stockton Borough Council, said: "We applied to the courts for this order after successive warnings failed to curb this youth's behaviour.
""The court's decision to grant our request for an anti-social behaviour order should stand as a warning that we are determined to eradicate anti-social behaviour and both the judge and ourselves hope he will mature by the time he is 18 and a further order will not be necessary.
"We hope that the order sends a clear message to others that activities of this nature, that cause harassment, alarm and distress, will not be tolerated in Stockton.
"We will continue to work with our partners and other agencies to ensure that residents, employees and businesses are protected from acts of anti-social behaviour within the Stockton borough."
