YOUNGSTERS are being encouraged to delve into the world of fiction this summer.
Crown Street Library, in Darlington town centre, is running free story sessions.
The events are taking place every Monday, between 9.30am and 11.30am, until the end of the autumn half-term next month.
Aimed at pre-school and primary school ages, the scheme offers learning activities for parents and children, using story sacks - a pack of books, soft toys and games - and crafts to get children involved with reading and literacy.
Tutor Janet Woodcock said: "As well as the story-sack sessions, we also offer a number of different courses for parents, all geared towards family learning and the development of literacy in children."
