A GROUP of rail enthusiasts are to hold their next meeting on an important day in railway history.
The Friends of Darlington Railway Museum have chosen Tuesday, September 27, as it coincides with the anniversary of the first steam-hauled passenger service from Shildon to Darlington and Stockton in 1825.
The speaker for the occasion will be Colin Mountford and his illustrated talk is about digital work on old photographs.
Mr Mountford is well known for his research on early railway history in the North-East, including the Bowes Incline.
Last year, he had published a book called The Private Railways of County Durham.
The meeting is in the railway museum, at 7.15pm.
