POLICE are hunting a group of three or four men who launched a savage attack on a man on the doorstep of his home.
The 37-year-old returned to his house in Okehampton Square, Sunderland, at 9.20pm on August 29 after a night out with his wife.
A car pulled into the street soon after and the men banged on his front door.
When he answered it they punched and kicked him so severely his nose was broken, cheekbone fractured and eyes blackened. He needed 18 stitches in his face.
He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and detained for two days.
Police are investigating and believe a light car driven by a woman took the men away from the scene after the attack.
