MARTON will win promotion to the Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Premier Division if they take 14 points from their final game of the season against Redcar this afternoon.

Thornaby are in pole position but played their final match last Saturday.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will not intervene like last weekend," said captain Chris Lane.

"If it is a wash-out we will receive just six points and Thornaby will go up.

"We'll be going all out to win and I'm hoping for a bit better luck with the toss of the coin. I've only won it on a handful of occasions in 25 calls so I think I am due for a winning call."

Should Marton defeat already relegated Redcar they will end with an identical playing record to Thornaby but would clinch promotion by virtue of having won more bonus points in drawn games.

It's winner-takes-all in the top-of-the-table game between Ashington and Tynedale in the Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.

Tynedale moved into an 11-point lead when they staged the only game in the league last Saturday.

Ashington include Ben Harmison, who is available as Durham Academy have completed their programme.

Tynedale will have Gary Pratt playing only his second game of the season. The Durham County player was 12th man for England against Australia at The Oval. In his only other appearance he scored a whirlwind 180 not out.
