MOVE over Freddie Lundberg, and David Beckham may as well cover up his locks with a Burberry cap, for there is a new sportsman who is setting the latest hairstyle trends.
Over the past couple of days, young cricket fans have been visiting their local salon to see if can copy the Kevin Pieterson "skunk look" and bowl over the ladies.
Jigsaw, in Gladstone Street, Darlington, has had a couple of inquiries from young men and have made the style their latest special offer.
Stylist Michelle Raine said: "As we are expecting this trend to take off. We are advertising the cut and colour as a special offer for £25. Men take just as much notice of their appearance as women do these days, which can only be a good thing, and people do like to copy popular styles."
Hairdressing chain Saks, which has salons in Darlington, Bishop Auckland and Richmond, are prepared for the trend to spread.
Laura Halford-MacLeod, head of marketing, said: "Our clients like to copy famous people's styles and sports personalities are no exception. Some clients want to be the celebrity so, of course, they want to look like them.
"Obviously, if people come in to our salons and say they want a Kevin Pieterson haircut, or any other celebrity's style, we would be more than happy to give them a consultation."
However, as a word of warning to young men wishing to copy the look - it is probably best if they arrive at the salon with a picture of their Ashes hero, as despite all the media coverage of the Test matches there are still some hairdressers who are oblivious as to who he is.
