AN annual produce show proved a great success.
The Royal Oak Butterknowle Leek Club held its sixth annual show at the weekend in the grounds of the Pinfold Medical Practice.
Champion leek grower was George Dodds with a stand of leeks measuring 133.15 cubic inches and the best leek in the show was won by Mick Murphy.
John Constable won the Bob Snowdon Memorial Shield for most points in the vegetable section and also the Castle Eden Brewery Shield for most points in the flower section.
The one flower and one vegetable trophy, donated by David Parnaby, a former member who now lives in Spain, was won by David Walton, with club chairman's wife Sally Anne Blackett in second and James Wilson, grandson of member Sheila Todd, in third.
An auction of produce raised £167 for Butterknowle School and £50 for Pinfold Medical Practice.
