HOPES are high that a £27m traffic management scheme will get Government approval.
Councillor Eileen Bosomworth, leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said it was vital the project goes ahead as a priority because of the benefits it would have on the resort's economy.
The work includes building a new bypass on the A165 at Lebberston and three park and ride facilities on the outskirts of the resort.
Labour group leader Councillor Eric Broadbent wrote to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.
He said Mr Prescott had replied, saying: "We are aware of the importance of these schemes to Scarborough's visitors and residents."
Mr Prescott said the Department of Transport had been scrutinising them to ensure they give good value for money and an announcement was expected soon.
