A HEALTH club manager had a hair-raising experience and collected more than £1,000 for a children's charity.
Tom Carter, who runs Bannatyne's Health Club in Ingleby Barwick, volunteered to lose his locks at the Family Fun Day on Sunday.
The £1,300 raised will be handed to children's charity Wish Upon a Star.
Stylist Andrea Riley, who runs Riley's Salon, based at the health club, used her skills with the clippers to remove his hair in front of amused members, staff and guests.
The successful day was packed with activities, ranging from archery tuition and demonstrations to football tournaments and a bouncy castle.
There was also a raffle, featuring prizes such as a signed Middlesbrough FC shirt.
All funds will be presented to Wish Upon A Star, which provides dream holidays and events for children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses.
The shaven-headed fundraiser said: "It was a great success and nice to see so many people from the local community turn up.
"We are really pleased to be able to hand over so much money to Wish Upon a Star, which will help them fulfil some more dreams for young people."
Reflecting on his new look, Tom added: "I haven't quite got used to seeing myself without any hair and I just hope it grows back before the winter sets in."
