BUSINESSES are being reminded to enter this year's Queen's Awards for Enterprise scheme.
Several organisations have applied for details of the awards and, with the deadline for entries on October 31, officials are convinced there are more who can join Britain's business elite.
Thirty companies from Northumberland and Tyneside have applied, with 14 from County Durham, 15 from Teesside and Hartlepool, four from Sunderland and 34 from North Yorkshire.
Queen's Awards spokesman Stephen Brice said: "It is encouraging that 63 organisations from the North-East have requested details of the most prestigious of business awards, especially in our 40th anniversary year.
"Unlike many business awards, The Queen's Awards for Enterprise recognise the contribution made by the whole workforce.
"Size is irrelevant. If a company employs at least two people, is UK-based and a high achiever in its field, it can enter.
"Almost half of the 137 awards granted last year were made to companies with fewer than 50 employees, and 14 had fewer than ten."
To enter, call 0870 513 4486 or go to www.queensawards.org. uk
