DETAILED plans of a care village with hundreds of bungalows and flats for older people will be unveiled this week.
Residents in Hartlepool are being offered the chance to view the proposal from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the council and health trusts.
The Extra Care Village would be built close to Easington Road, in Hartlepool's Middle Warren area.
The scheme, which would involve 240 flats and bungalows, plus support and community facilities, would be the first of its kind for Hartlepool and the Tees Valley.
At Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre, in Raby Road, on Wednesday, from 4pm to 7pm, the public will be able to hearabout the plans and make comments.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has teamed up with Hartlepool Borough Council, Hartlepool Primary Care Trust (PCT) and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust for the development proposal.
Linda Watson, director of nursing and operations for Hartlepool PCT, said: "We have worked hard with local people to develop a vision for care which aims to prevent ill-health as well as focusing on all the needs of an individual and providing care as close to home as possible."
Nigel Ingram, director of development and property services for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, said : "Before we submit our planning application, we want to provide a further opportunity for people to find out about the proposals and help us to finalise the plans."
