A DETECTIVE who spent four years supporting the family of murdered student Sara Cameron throughout the investigation was honoured last night.
Detective Constable Vicky Corner was awarded the High Sheriff's Cup by Northumbria Police.
She was recognised for professionalism and commitment in a very demanding and stressful role.
A critical part of the North Tyneside investigation team, DC Corner was "always sensitive to the needs of the family while never forgetting her role as an investigator".
She was joined by Detective Sergeant Alan Turner, who received the award for his productivity and service to the community.
Managing a team of five PCs and DCs, Det Sgt Turner conducted an operation in Gateshead after 15 robberies, leading to the arrest and conviction of six men and one woman and uncovered several house burglaries and car thefts.
