A MAN is recovering in hospital after jumping nearly 35ft from a multi-storey car park.
The 45-year-old, from the Sheffield area, sustained a broken heel and bruising to his back in East Street, Darlington, yesterday.
Police said the man had been depressed and may have been trying to commit suicide.
He narrowly avoiding spiked railings when he jumped, said a spokesman.
The man is a painter and decorator who had been working in the area. He was being treated in Darlington Memorial Hospital last night.
