A BESOTTED husband who fell in love with another woman and could not take no for an answer was banned from contacting her for five years yesterday.

Neighbours said Mohammed Afsar went to the house where she lived and pleaded through the windows for her to forgive him

However, the 30-year-old object of his affections, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not want to know him.

The 44-year-old, from Middlesbrough, met her eight weeks earlier when they were both on holiday.

Afsar, who cares for his wife who is crippled by arthritis, said they had a holiday romance but that the relationship ended on their return home .

Nigel Wray, in mitigation, said Afsar was besotted by the woman and tried to get back together with her.

Afsar, of Lothian Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court to harassment between November 1 last year and January 7.

He was found not guilty of sexual assault and putting a person in fear of violence.

Judge Peter Armstrong said: "You are at an age when you ought to know better.

"You were harassing her by making dozens of phone calls at all hours and, on an occasion, you attended at her home in a drunken state banging on her windows.

"I am told that there has been no trouble since January, and there had better be no trouble in future."

Afsar was given a two-year conditional discharge and the order banning him from contacting the woman for five years.

He was also ordered to pay £250 in prosecution costs.
