DETECTIVES in Bishop Auckland are appealing for information after a young man was assaulted in the town centre on his way home from a night out.
The victim, in his early 20s, was walking along Gibbon Street at about 1am on Saturday, August 13, when the attack occurred.
Two of his friends were walking ahead of him when he went into an alleyway and was set upon by a group of youths.
The attack left him with cuts and slash marks to his face and bruising to his eyes.
The man was later treated at Bishop Auckland General Hospital for the injuries he suffered in the attack.
Detective Constable Andy Crowe said house-to-house inquiries were being carried out but appealed to anyone with information to contact police.
He said: "The assault took place in a very quiet area of the town and so far our house-to-house inquiries have drawn a blank.
"We would urge anyone with any information that could help us catch the youths to come forward."
Bishop Auckland CID can be contacted on (0845) 60 60 365. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on (0800) 555 111.
