VILLAGERS have celebrated the completion of a new doorstep green on the site of old allotments.
The land at Bowburn, between Bow Street and Burn Streets, was transformed into a space for all ages to use by Groundwork East Durham and Cassop-cum-Quarrington Parish Council.
The scheme was funded by the parish council, a grant from the Big Lottery, Living Spaces and Awards for All.
On Saturday, the green was opened with an event that included face-painting, children's entertainer, games and bouncy castle, barbecue and clay modelling.
Jason Martin, Groundwork East Durham project officer, said: "The transformation has been amazing. The site is now a useable space for the whole community to enjoy.''
The search is now on for volunteers to join the Friends of the Green group, who will help look after the green and organise community activities.
Anyone interested in helping can call Mr Martin on 0191-527 3333.
