DARREN Williams has called for a bit of patience after Hartlepool United's stuttering start to this season.

Pool have yet to find top gear this season and have just a single League One win for their efforts.

They salvaged a draw with a late penalty against Scunthorpe on Bank Holiday Monday, coming back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3.

And Williams feels that, ahead of tomorrow's home game with Yeovil at Victoria Park, Pool will soon start to show what they are capable of.

"I would give us seven or eight out of ten so far - we all know we've got a bit to do,'' he admitted.

"We are learning week by week off each other, we've got some new lads in there and it does take time to gel.

"What I would say to the fans is be a little bit patient.

"I know it is frustrating and I know things go wrong in a game, but things go wrong in life and in a normal job.

"From the lads' point of view I would say to the fans be patient and we will deliver for you.''

Pool and Williams were on the wrong end of the fans' frustration against Scunthorpe, before rescuing a point and he admitted: "We know it's frustrating and we know they pay good money to come and watch us, but we will get it right.

"There is pressure regardless of where you are in the league and it is something we have to deal with.

"Like I say, at the moment little things are going wrong every now and then which are causing us problems. But we are working Monday to Friday to put things right."

Former Sunderland defender Williams arrived at Pool from Cardiff hoping to be fighting it out for promotion at the top end of the table and remains sure they will soon be moving up the league.

He admitted: "We put pressure on ourselves because we expect to be up there fighting for top spot.

"There is no more pressure from the fans than what we put ourselves under anyway.

"It's just a matter of getting things right. All of the chemicals are going in there at the moment, it's just not gelling."

Mark Tinkler played 90 minutes and scored for Pool's reserve side in a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder has been out this season after a tendon problem.
