A MAN doused himself in petrol and threatened to set himself on fire after a domestic dispute.
Police and firefighters were called by the man's wife to an address in Hambleton Road, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, on Wednesday.
Officers spent about four hours talking to the man, believed to be in his 30s, before he gave himself up.
Witnesses said the man came out of his house and paced up and down the street as police kept a safe distance.
Paramedics and firefighters were on stand-by during the incident and a crowd of about 25 people gathered in the street to watch.
One woman said: "I came back from work and the man was walking around holding a petrol can. A police officer beckoned me to go in my house. After several hours he just gave himself up."
A spokesman for Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "Paramedics remained at the scene until the man was taken into custody."
The man was taken to Harrogate police station for questioning, and was still being held in custody last night.
