NEWCASTLE United footballer Lee Bowyer's court appearance next week has been postponed pending a legal challenge in the High Court, his lawyer said yesterday.
The 28-year-old was due to answer a summons following an on-pitch brawl with team-mate Kieron Dyer last season.
His solicitor, Steven Barker, has lodged papers at the High Court in London seeking a judicial review of the decision to prosecute the midfielder.
The hearing, which was due to take place on Monday at Newcastle, will not be held until after the High Court's decision on whether to grant leave to appeal.
Mr Barker said Bowyer's club fine of more than £250,000 meant further punishment by the courts was not in the public interest.
The player clashed with fellow midfielder Dyer during a game in April, and the incident was seen on television and by 52,000 fans at St James' Park.
