MORE than a hundred young people enjoyed the first day of a youth festival in Newton Aycliffe yesterday.
The Momentum Festival, at the town's Christian Life Centre, attracted around 70 11 to 18-year-olds for daytime activities including a water slide, fashion workshops and sports training.
Almost 150 youngsters returned to the venue for music and dancing by members of Planet Youth - the church's youth section which organised the event.
Similar events are planned for today and Friday.
Youth worker Laura Brown said: "The festival is a great way of providing constructive fun activities for young people at the end of the summer break, when they are starting to run out of ideas.
"It is the ideal way to offer them some good fun and give them somewhere to hang out together that isn't on the streets."
