VILLAGERS are invited to join in the fun to mark the completion of a "doorstep green" at the weekend.
Disused former allotments have been converted into informal recreation space for people in Bowburn, near Durham.
The Groundwork Trust's East Durham team has joined forces with Cassop-cum-Quarrington Parish Council to oversee the development of the run-down green space, between Bow and Burn streets.
Local people are welcome to mark the culmination of the work at Saturday's fun day, and recruits are needed to help preserve the area.
The scheme's success has been ensured thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, plus backing from the Countryside Agency, with additional funding from Living Spaces, Awards for All and a contribution from the parish council.
Project officer Jason Martin, of the Groundwork Trust, said: "The transformation has been amazing. The site is now a usable space for the whole community to enjoy.
Saturday's event takes place from noon to 3pm. If the weather is bad, it will move indoors to nearby Bowburn Community Centre.
As part of the event, Bowburn Youth Centre is hosting a slide show and exhibition, staged by the village's local history society.
The display, including photographs, maps and memories from the village's 99-year history, is aimed at bringing the generations together.
Meanwhile, anyone interested in joining the Friends of the Green can contact Mr Martin at the Groundwork Trust on 0191-527 3333.
