SCOUT leaders hope to find adult volunteers after a shopping complex gave them money for computer equipment.
The Bishop Auckland Scout District received £100 from the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre Community Fund.
The cash will allow the group to produce recruitment literature to attract volunteers.
Ian Johnson, Scouts' district commissioner for Bishop Auckland, said the cash took the district to its target fundraising figure of £1,800. He said: "We've been trying to raise funds for a presentation tool for a long time now and the total always seemed one step away but with the help of the Prince Bishops we've now been able to buy the goods."
Mr Johnson and his team will visit places between Bishop Auckland, Sedgefield, Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe over the next few months to recruit volunteers.
