DAYS after blaming Carlos Logan for the crucial late goal which Darlington conceded at Chester City, David Hodgson has lavished praise on the teenage winger.

Logan has begun his Quakers career in cracking form, scoring three in seven games including the winner against Rochdale on Monday that he marked with a somersault which has become his trademark celebration.

It was his antics two days earlier which infuriated his boss who reckoned Logan lost possession cheaply in the build-up to Chester's third goal which came seconds before they levelled to make it 4-4.

But that was soon rectified with another eye-catching display on Monday, capped by the 70th minute goal which was preceded by some neat footwork and close control on the edge of the Rochdale penalty area.

"It was an incredible goal that took us all by surprise," admitted Hodgson, who signed the 19-year-old in the summer on a free transfer from Manchester City.

His two previous strikes were also memorable - his goal against Stockport was a left-footed volley and at Hartlepool last week he dribbled from the halfway line before firing home from 18 yards - and Hodgson added: "He said before the game that his legs felt heavy but that was just adrenaline because he's flying at the moment.

"He's got the opposition in his hands and I told him before the game to keep it that way with his workrate and he did that.

"He did tire towards the end of the game but that was always going to happen as he is only a young lad and he was playing his second game in three days.

"He's only a kid, like a lot of the team, and he puts in a lot of effort, sometimes too much uncalled for effort, but he deserved his goal and we deserved the victory."
