AN old-fashioned fete saw residents battle it out in a tug-of-war competition to raise community funds.
A magician, a bouncy castle and a pool contest entertained dozens of visitors on a glorious Bank Holiday Monday in Nunthorpe.
The Family Fun Day was held at Nunthorpe and Marton Sports and Recreation Club, in Guisborough Road, to raise money to fund trips for the elderly and youngsters.
Lesley McGloin, chairwoman of the Community Council, said: "It has been a brilliant day and we can't believe the weather has been so nice for a bank holiday.
"This is our second fundraising event for the community, which we hope will help us take pensioners and one-parent families out on day trips.
"Money will also go to the Northumbria in Bloom competition."
Two teams of eight struggled in an entertaining tug-of-war contest and the Abingdon Road School Steel Band entertained the crowds between noon and 5pm.
Mrs McGloin said that last year's event raised £600 and organisers were hoping to raise about £800 yesterday.
Entry was free and people taking part in activities were charged a small fee to contribute to funding.
