MEMBERS of a dance club donned their dancing shoes, plus 1940s outfits, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of VJ Day.
Shildon Railway Institute Modern Sequence Dance Club staged a dance for the occasion, and dressed up in red, white and blue or wartime uniforms. The dance hall was decorated with bunting and Union Jack flags. The founder of the club, Bertha Pallister, 97, gave a speech, while many members, past and present, gathered to reminisce.
Lilian Storey, from the club, said: "It certainly turned out to be a night to be remember and I don't think it'll be forgotten for many years to come. It was very, very good indeed and everyone had a very good time."
The event was funded by the Home Front Recall Lottery.
