PENSIONERS in two former pit villages are to get advice on how to avoid falling prey to bogus-caller thieves.
Age Concern Durham County and Durham Police are putting on two presentations, called Beat the Bogeyman, to warn people of the danger of criminals posing as officials.
The first will be at Fyndoune House, in Witton Gilbert, on Wednesday, September 7, starting at 1.30pm, the other at Bearpark Community Centre, the following day, at 12.45pm.
Age Concern locality development worker George Barber said: "The talk raises awareness of doorstep crime and teaches the dos and don'ts of how to handle bogus callers. A free information pack will be provided to all who attend.''
Anyone aged 50 or over who wants more information can call Mr Barber on 0191-371 8601.
