A MAN caught with a stolen motor scooter when police raided his home has been spared jail.

Officers recovered the £2,000 machine at Lee Gibson's address last November.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the bike had been stolen from outside the owner's home a week earlier.

When it was recovered, it was in poor condition, with no registration or identifying marks and the ignition barrel had been removed.

Unemployed Gibson, 28, of Hustledown Gardens, Stanley, admitted handling stolen goods.

Recorder Peter Johnson sentenced him to 60 hours community punishment to be carried out after he has completed an order for 150 hours imposed in June.
