MARTIN SCOTT believes Hartlepool United will now start to see the real Michael Proctor after the striker scored his first goals for the club.
Proctor, signed from Rotherham during the summer, netted twice as Pool secured a spot in round two of the Carling Cup with a derby victory over Darlington on Tuesday.
Proctor's goals put Pool 2-0 and then 3-1 up. He replaced Adam Boyd in the second half and, after four games without a goal before Tuesday, Scott said: "Michael had not scored in the pre-season games or in the league but he has been putting a lot of work in and has done really well for us.
"Against Darlington he summed up what his game is all about and he has to chase those lost causes because when things aren't quite going for you, you have to get a goal from anywhere and he did that.''
Pool overcame Quakers' resistance to earn a place in Saturday's second round draw.
"My players can walk away from the game with their heads held high. We had a couple of nervous moments and at 2-0 it was a dodgy scoreline and we have thrown scores like that away in the past - we did it against Peterborough at home last season and drew from leading 2-0 - but we dug in and ground a result."
Mark Tinkler last night stepped up his comeback with an appearance in the reserve game at Sheffield United.
Striker Joel Porter yesterday visited a knee specialist in the hope of getting the green light to step up his comeback from a knee operation.
