CHURCH embroidery will be on show in Richmond next month.
The three-day exhibition of embroidery, dating from 1850 to 2000, will be held in St Mary's Church, from September 16 to 18.
All of the needlework comes from within 30 miles of Richmond.
More than 50 pieces will be on show, including church vestments, altar linen, kneelers and banners.
"Some of the work is magnificent," said organiser Ann McDonald.
Mrs McDonald, who has taught embroidery in Richmond for more than 20 years, said: "The exhibition will show how designs and techniques have changed over the years.
"It will also allow a comparison of professional work by nuns and specialist companies with that of very gifted amateurs, including one or two men.
"Part of the exhibition will demonstrate how pieces affected by the ravages of time can be restored and conserved."
Three pieces from Ripon Cathedral will feature in the exhibition.
Other vestments and altar linen come from villages that include Romaldkirk, Catterick Village, Hutton Magna, Cotherstone, East Cowton and Grinton.
The exhibition opens at 6.30pm on Friday, September 16, with a concert at 7.30pm, organised by St Mary's organist Roger Ohr.
It continues on Saturday, from 10am to 8pm, and Sunday, from noon to 5pm.
Guided tours of St Mary's churchyard and visits to the bell tower will also be available.
Admission to the exhibition is free, but donations are welcome.
The event is part of Richmond's 850th Royal Charter anniversary celebrations.
