FURNITURE retailer Barker and Stonehouse yesterday announced plans to open a seventh store.
The Middlesbrough-based company confirmed it is opening a 35,000sq ft store in Hull, in October, which will strengthen its presence outside the region.
The firm, which has outlets in Middlesbrough, Darlington, Gateshead, Newcastle, Knaresborough and Leeds, has invested £500,000 in the new site.
Managing director James Barker said: "Hull is like Teesside in that it is a place that people seem to forget about. It is not well catered for in terms of furniture and interiors shops.
"We chose Hull because we have been offered a good site and we have a distribution centre about 30 miles away from there.
"We have steadily expanded the business and naturally crept down into Yorkshire over recent years. If we see an opportunity then we take it."
The Hull store will create 22 jobs to add to the company's workforce of 350.
