A FRAUDSTER who was spotted trying to sell counterfeit goods has been warned he could face jail.

Simon Redhead was caught with nearly 350 fake DVDs, CDs and computer games by trading standards officers scouring a car boot sale looking for dodgy dealers.

In panic, the 30-year-old, of Newton Lane, Cockerton, Darlington, gave his step- father's surname and address, a court heard.

Redhead admitted 17 sample charges of breaching the Trade Descriptions Act when he appeared before Teesside magistrates yesterday.

A Stockton Borough Council officer witnessed Redhead selling the fake goods at a car boot sale in Blakeston Lane, Stockton, in June last year.

Redhead and two accomplices, who managed to escape, had unreleased movies, as well as copied CDs and video games, with an estimated value of £5,370.

Tahira Bourchier, representing Stockton council, said Redhead had been uncooperative throughout the investigation.

In mitigation, Redhead's solicitor, Kevin Ross, said: "He paid £300 for the fakes and hoped to make £1 on each one. He didn't even make enough to cover the cost of entry to the car boot sale."

Magistrate chairman Eric Toulin adjourned the case until September 20 for reports, but said jail was possible.
