A WOMAN in remission from cancer is about to trek the Inca Trail in memory of her late husband.
Elizabeth Davies, 62, from Scruton, near Northallerton, will fly to Peru next month to take up the challenge.
Her husband died of leukaemia last year and she is trekking the trail in his memory and to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
She said: "I want to do the trek for a number of reasons. First, I am secretary of the Northallerton Marie Curie Cancer Care Support Group, and I am myself in remission from cancer.
"But my main reason is that I lost my husband from leukaemia last year and he was able to spend his last days at home, which is what Marie Curie is all about - nursing people in their own homes for the final days. This is for him."
She has been helped by donations from a number of groups, including Greenside Ladies Choir, in Scruton, of which she is a member, St Radegund's Church Craft Circle and Scruton Society.
So far, she has raised more than £3,000.
Mrs Davies is training for the trek, which will see her climb to 4,200m above sea level and spend four nights sleeping in a tent before walking to the lost city of the Incas, Macchu Picchu.
