Hartlepool-born apprentice Tony Hamilton lost his right to claim an allowance when the Richard Fahey-trained Paparaazi provided him with the 95th success of his career in dramatic fashion in the Gaffney Industrial & Welding Supplies Handicap at Redcar on Saturday night.
Paparaazi was brought with a strong late run to catch Press Express right on the line to score by a short head in the ten furlong test, most observers having been convinced the latter had just held on.
Hamilton, 22, started riding out for Wolviston trainer Chris Grant when still at school, but later joined David Nicholls and the Sessay trainer gave him his first winner in the shape of Rafter's Music at Doncaster when he was only 16.
He spent two years with Nicholls, and a year with Brian Ellison before teaming up with Fahey three years ago, and the jockey said: "Everyone I have been with has been good to me and I am pleased to have ridden out my claim.
"It is a pity that Paul (Hanagan) has been injured, I have come in for more rides because of that, but we are good friends and he has been a big help to me too.
"Realism gave me my biggest success when winning at York last week, and my ambition is just to keep riding as many winners as possible."
David Barron is hoping for better things from Ingleby Arch after watching the youngster open his account in impressive fashion in the hands of Paul Fessey in the Flowerbox At Guisborough And Stokesley Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
Ingleby Arch led over a furlong out and went away to score by three lengths, prompting Barron to reflect: "He is a good sort of horse, and I would like to think he will progress and be able to go for something like the totesport 2-Y-0 Trophy here (on October 1), he has a lot of quality and a lot of class about him."
Derek McGaffin was suspended for one day (August 31) for careless riding on Il Castagno.
Seb Sanders arrived just too late to partner Killybegs in the Redcar Racecourse Wedding Receptions Novice Median Auction Stakes, and in stepped Joe Fanning to gain his first success for Barry Hills on his second ride for the Lambourn trainer.
Sanders later made his dash from Chester pay off when he teamed up with Tim Easterby's Nistaki to win the Gus Robinson Coats Blanca Homes SL Classified Stakes, after which the trainer said: "Everything has gone wrong for the horse in his races, but he loves this ground."
David McCabe was suspended for one day (Aug 31) for not riding to his draw on Banjo Bay.
However Sanders' championship rival Jamie Spencer struck too, giving Keith Reveley's Celtic Carisma a confident ride to win the "Girls 'Night Out'" Handicap.
Reveley said: "Jamie gave her a real good ride and that is two winners from three rides he has had for me."
