A HOODED gunman blasted a man in the leg after he answered the door in what police believe was a gangland shooting.
The attack, in Sceptre Place, Elswick, Newcastle, at 4pm on Thursday, came after a lull in a spate of tit-for-tat shootings in the city's West End.
Detectives were yesterday analysing security camera footage in the area to see if the gunman was caught on film.
Acting Detective Inspector Mark Appleby, of Newcastle CID, said: "The victim was shot after a caller turned up at his house. His injuries are not life-threatening but he is detained in hospital.
"We would ask for anyone who has information which would help the inquiry to contact police."
The 30-year-old victim, who has not been named, was at home with his partner and a number of other adults when the gunman struck. He was wounded above his right knee.
Police say people in the area have given conflicting reports on whether the assailant wore a balaclava or hat to mask his identity. They are also trying to establish if the gunman escaped in a vehicle driven by an accomplice.
Acting Det Insp Appleby said: "It is too early to say what was behind the shooting. This was not a random attack."
Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-214 6555.
