CHILDREN are being invited to a music workshop next week.
Free Range Music features five three-hour sessions to be staged at Durham Town Hall, daily from Wednesday to Friday. Admission is £1.
It will culminate in a city centre carnival parade, during which the young musicians can put into practice the fruits of their labours over the previous three days.
Durham City Arts is organising the summer school, which is particularly aimed at percussionists.
The newly-assembled carnival band will have three days to write, arrange and rehearse a selection of music from scratch. Places are limited and must be booked, via Durham City Arts, on 0191-301 8245, or 301 8830.
The sessions run from 10am to 3pm, with the Saturday carnival parade starting in the Market Place, at 10.30am, proceeding through the Prince Bishops and Millburngate Shopping Centres.
