THE aliens have landed in Ferryhill - thanks to a scheme at a local education centre.
Youngsters from the town's Ladder Centre, in Coniston Road, have developed a film about safety, based around the antics of alien visitors Weedo and Electra.
Their mission is to find out all they can about safety and how accidents happen and can be prevented, as they have never had an accident on their planet for hundreds of years.
The youngsters, aged between eight and 12, came up with the idea to help them examine one of the Government's Every Child Matters themes - Staying Safe.
The Every Child Matters programme brings agencies together to work more closely to improve provision for children and young people.
A spokesman for Sedgefield Borough Council said: "The youngsters are working alongside the video artists from Kinetic Symbiosis, who have come up with the story and are scripting, designing sets, filming and eventually editing."
Funding has come from the Durham Children's Fund and once the film is complete, it will be used by the community safety team at Sedgefield Borough schools to promote prevention and safety.
