SEVEN family members spread across four generations are preparing for an agricultural show.

With just over a week to go before the Wensleydale Show, event secretary Gill Harrison said the talk around the dinner table was of little else.

At the show her husband Adrian will be showing Jersey cattle.

Her father-in-law, Maurice, is chief cattle steward and is helping run the quoits competition. Her mother-in-law, Anne, will be judging produce classes.

Mrs Harrison said with everybody at the show, her children had no choice but to get involved.

Luckily they have entered into the spirit of the event - five-year-old Annabel has entered a painted stone and James, three, will be showing his pet lamb.

The family is being offered moral support and encouragement by the children's great grandmother, 84- year-old Gwen Harrison, a veteran of many previous shows in North Yorkshire.

Gill Harrison, 38, said: "We pride ourselves on being a proper agricultural show with lots of cattle, sheep and horses, plus the traditional produce and horticultural marquees, but there is lots more besides to make it a great family day out."

Maurice Harrison, 62, has been helping organise the show since one of his father's cattle won supreme dairy champion in the early 1960s.

He said: "I think it's important that we keep the show going."

Other attractions include the Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter, an aerobatics display, children's fair, a circus workshop, a parade of hounds, Leyburn Band, Richmond Pipes and Drums and about 100 trade stands.

The show takes place at Bellerby Road, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, next Saturday, from 10am. Admission is £6 for adults and £3 for OAPs and under-16s. Car parking is free
